Abstract
Back ground and Aim:This study aimed to examine the predictive roles of positive and negative affect, identity styles, and critical thinking in risky behaviors among high school students. Method: A quantitative correlational design was employed, with a sample of 187 second-year high school students in Shiraz, Iran, selected via multi-stage cluster random sampling during the 2024-2025 academic year. Data were collected using the Iranian Adolescent Risk Behavior Scale (2011), Watson and Tellegen’s Positive and Negative Affect Scale (1988), Berzonsky’s Identity Styles (1989), and Ricketts’ Critical Thinking Scale (2003), and analyzed using multiple regression in SPSS 26.Result: The Results indicated that negative affect and avoidant-confused identity positively predict risky behaviors, while informational identity, commitment identity, and creativity in critical thinking negatively predict them. No significant relationships were found for positive affect, normative identity, or the growth and engagement dimensions of critical thinking. Conclusion: These findings highlight the protective roles of identity commitment and creativity and the risk-enhancing role of negative affect in adolescent risky behaviors.
