Abstract
Background and Aim: Internet addiction is a growing problem in educational systems across all societies. Hence, the present study aimed to determine the prediction of internet addiction based on perfectionism and family friendship among high school students in Baghdad.

Methods: The research method was applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational regarding the type of data and research approach. The study population consisted of high school students in Baghdad for the academic year 2024-2025. Using a multi-stage random sampling method and the Tapachik and Fidel (2013) sample size formula, which suggests that for each variable in correlational studies, between ten to twenty individuals should be selected, 12 individuals per variable and sub-variable were included in the study, resulting in a total sample size of 300 participants. Data were collected using questionnaires on internet addiction, perfectionism, and family friendship. The collected information was analyzed using multiple regression analysis with the stepwise method through SPSS version 26.

Results: The results indicated a significant relationship between positive perfectionism (β=0.31), negative perfectionism (β=0.33), family friendship (β=0.52), and internet addiction (p<0.001). Additionally, the results of the stepwise regression analysis with both predictor variables demonstrated that the role of family friendship in predicting internet addiction among high school students was significant and effective (p<0.001). Among the positive and negative dimensions of perfectionism, negative perfectionism had a significant predictive role in internet addiction (p<0.001).

Conclusion: Therefore, considering the significant impact of family friendship and negative perfectionism in predicting internet addiction, implementing practical decisions can help reduce this issue among high school students and foster healthier relationships and more balanced use of digital technologies.
