Abstract
Metadiscourse signs are tools used to organize language without adding anything to the main content of the text. In the theoretical framework of Hyland (2005), a model is presented for analyzing the interaction between the author of the text and its audience, as well as the coherence of the text. In this research, based on Hyland's theoretical model, the signs of interactive and exchange metadiscourse in the novels and collection of stories written by Hoshang Moradi Kermani, one of the famous authors in the field of children's and adolescent literature, have been examined and compared. For this purpose, the AntConc software was used to extract and identify the types of metadiscourse markers employed in Moradi Kermani's short story collections and novels, which comprise 221,387 words, and then compare them. Finally, the findings showed that the number of interactive metadiscourse markers was higher than the interactional ones in the corpus under study. This means that interaction with the audience is more important than guiding them in the literary genre. Also, considering the identical writing style of the author under study in the short story collections and novels, the data analysis using the Wilcoxon statistical test did not show a significant difference in the frequency of metadiscourse markers between the short story collections and novels.
