Abstract
The purpose of this research was to design and evaluate the effectiveness of a training program based on schema therapy on the self-efficacy of visually impaired people. The research method is considered to be fundamental and applied in terms of its purpose, and it is considered to be a combination-exploratory research. The statistical population of the research in the qualitative part included Persian and English specialized books and articles in the field of education based on schema therapy in the last 20 years, which were selected by the purposeful sampling method of the sample group. Then the therapeutic schema components were extracted from them and coded with the qualitative method of thematic analysis. Finally, the schema therapy package was compiled during eighteen sessions and its formal and content validity was confirmed by experts. The research method in the quantitative part was a semi-experimental type with a pre-test-post-test design and follow-up with a control group. The statistical population of the research in this section included people with visual impairments of RP Center in Tehran who had rehabilitation records. The sample size includes 40 people (20 people in the experimental group and 20 people in the control group) from the statistical population selected by purposeful sampling and placed in the control and experimental groups. For the experimental group, training based on schema therapy was implemented, while the control group did not receive training. The research tool included self-efficacy questionnaire (Bandura, 2006).The data was analyzed using the analysis of variance test with repeated measurements. The results showed that training based on schema therapy had a significant effect on improving self-efficacy in the post-exam and follow-up stages (P<0.01). The findings of this research provide useful information related to schema therapy-based training, and counselors and psychologists can use this intervention to improve self-efficacy of visually impaired people.
