Abstract
: The aim of this study was to propose a model for enhancing adherence to research ethics among teacher-researchers in education.
Methodology: The research is applied in terms of its objective and utilizes a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach for data collection. The qualitative part involves thematic analysis, while the quantitative part employs surveys, exploratory factor analysis, path analysis, and the examination of model fit indices. The qualitative sample consisted of experts, selected through purposive sampling until saturation, based on criteria such as university faculty membership and at least ten years of research experience, resulting in 11 participants. The quantitative sample included all teacher-researchers in Arak, with a random cluster sample of 248 selected according to Cochran’s formula. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews for the qualitative part and a researcher-designed 46-item Likert-scale questionnaire for the quantitative part. The validity of the tools was assessed through re-examination, face, content, and construct validity (CVR & CVI), with reliability coefficients ranging from 0.85 to 0.97 based on Cronbach’s alpha. Data analysis involved thematic analysis for the qualitative part and exploratory factor analysis and path analysis using SPSS 27 and AMOS for the quantitative part.
Findings: In the first phase of qualitative analysis, 212 initial codes were extracted, which, after eliminating overlapping and duplicate codes, were reduced to 58 main codes. After refinement, these were further reduced to 42 themes and 10 networks. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin sampling adequacy measure was 0.96, and Bartlett’s test of sphericity was p < 0.001, indicating sufficient data volume and correlation for analysis. In the principal component analysis, six factors with eigenvalues greater than one were identified, explaining 0.64 of the shared variance. According to the model fit indices based on identified components, the chi-square value was 1.554 and the comparative relative fit indices were above 0.90, indicating a good model fit.
Conclusion: According to the model fit indices, the model for enhancing research ethics includes components such as ethical principles and social responsibility, responsible and ethical writing, key design and implementation requirements, motivation and commitment, informed participation and justice in research, neutrality, and independence in research.
