Abstract
The aim of this study was to Effectiveness family based mental empowerment program on working memory and attention of slow learners’ students. The method present study was experimental with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. From all slow learning students at first grade of elementary school in Tehran in the academic year of 2023-2024, 34 students and their parents were selected from elementary schools in district 10 of Tehran by multi-stage cluster sampling method. The participants were randomly divided into two groups of 17 people (experimental and control groups). The experimental group received the family based mental empowerment program in 18 sessions, while the control group was not given this training. The tools included the Working Memory Test Battery for Children (Arjamandnia, 2016), the complex Stroop Test Software (Ridley Stroop, 1935), and the students’ report sheets. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and MANOVA with repeated measures. The results showed that the family mental empowerment program had a significant effect on improving the components of working memory (phonological loop, visual-spatial plane and central executive) and attention (interference score, interference time, correct answer, error answer) of late learners (p<0.001). Therefore, the family based mental empowerment program can be a promising intervention for slow learners.
