Academic Adjustment and Social Skills: The Importance of Teaching Group Participation in Education

Abstract
Background and Objective: The main purpose of research was to investigate the effectiveness of group participation education on academic adjustment and social skills development of middle school girls in district one of Urmia city in the academic year of 2022-2023 (N=3800). . Methodology: The study is applied research in terms of its objectives and according to the nature of the subject and the objectives of the quasi-experimental research with the experimental group and the control group with pre-test and post-test. The statistical population of the study includes all middle school girl,s students in district one of Urmia city. Among these students, in accordance with quasi-experimental research and available sampling method, a sample of 30 people (15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group) were selected and the participants in the experimental and control groups were randomly substituted. Group participation training was conducted for the experimental group based on the educational package (Mohammadi et al., 2014) for two sessions a week and for one month. To measure students' academic adjustment, Beaker and Seriac Questionnaire (1984) and to measure the development of social skills, Alice Weitzman's Social Skills Development Questionnaire (1990) was used. The content, face, and criterion validity of these questionnaires have been reviewed and approved by the faculty members of the Department of Educational Sciences. It has been found that their reliability using Cronbach's alpha was 0.78 and 0.73 respectively. The data were analyzed using SPSS28 software and through analysis of covariance test. Findings:The findings of the research showed that teaching in the way of group participation effective on the academic adjustment and development of social skills of girls students of the middle school girls in district one of Urmia city. Conclusion: The utilization of active teaching methods by educators, including participatory learning, enhances students' educational resilience and the development of their social skills.
