Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of positive thinking skills training on the mental health of female high school students in District 4 of Tehran. The type of research is quasi-experimental with pre-test-post-test design with control group. The population of this study consists of all female students in the second year of high school in district 4 of Tehran. From this community, one school has been selected by available sampling method and two secondary classes have been selected by random method. Goldberg Questionnaire (1998) was used to assess mental health. To conduct the research, both groups were pre-tested, then 10 90-minute positive thinking sessions were presented for the experimental group, but no intervention was performed for the control group. After the training, post-test was taken from both groups. Thus, the required data were collected and analyzed by covariance test. The results showed that the mean mental health of the experimental group was 50 in the pre-test but 44 in the post-test. Inferential analysis also confirmed the effectiveness of education on mental health with 99% confidence.
