Abstract
Addiction, a multi-aspects phenomena, is one of the most problematic facet of modern life across all ages. Psychological variables play a fundamental role at developing and maintaining this disorder. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between sensation seeking, competition anxiety, and need for approval with addiction tendency in students population. Participants includes 220 literature, engineering, art, and physical education’s students in 95-96 academic year which selected by convenience sampelling. Participants completed collection of Dysfunctional Attitude Scale, Multidimensional Competitive Anxiety Questionnaire (MCAQ), Addiction Potential Scale, and sensation seeking scale. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis are used to analysis the data. Results showed that, on the one hand, there is a significant relationship between sensation seeking, competition anxiety, and need for approval with addiction tendency, and on the other hand, sensation seeking, competition anxiety, and need for approval can predict significantly the addiction tendency in the subjects. Also, Dependent T-Test showed that there is not a significant differences in the relationship between these variables in men and women.
