Investigating the Relationship between Creativity and Personality Traits with Academic Progress of Secondary School Students in Rudan County

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between creativity and personality traits with students' academic achievement. The statistical population of this study included all students of the second grade of primary education in Rudan city in the academic year of 2009-2010, which consisted of 1285 people. The statistical sample of the study was estimated to be 352 people using stratified random method based on Cochran's formula. This study was performed using descriptive correlation and to collect data from three standard questionnaires of personality traits (McCray and Costa, 1985), academic achievement (Fam and Taylor, 1999) and creativity (Torrance, 1962). Pierce's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data. The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between creativity and personality traits with students' academic achievement at the level of less than 0.05. . There is a positive and significant relationship between the components of creativity (fluidity, expansion, initiative and flexibility) with students' academic progress at the level of less than 0.05. There is a positive and significant relationship between the dimensions of extroverted personality traits, flexibility, compassion and conscientiousness with students' academic achievement at the level of less than 0.05. On the other hand, there is a negative and significant relationship between the psychological component and students' academic achievement.
